21 #LinkedIn Tips from 7 Experts

Petra Fisher, Andrew Cameron, Lori Ruff, Carol Smith, Mike O'Neil, The Dream Team in Denver. LinkedIn, LinkedIn Training, Graphic Design, Revenue AttractionThree weeks ago I made a whirlwind trip from Amsterdam to Denver Colorado to share the stage with social media experts from 3 countries and 4 states. After a great party to start the holiday season on Tuesday, we had a day of training, training and more training on Thursday November 29th. As if the party with “500+” (true LinkedIn style) attending wasn’t exiting enough… well over a 100 people enjoyed the training sessions on Thursday and what an audience they were.

When people engage and participate like that, I know exactly why I love training so much!
Thank you! To all people attending and actively engaging.

Introducing the experts…

With the focus on LinkedIn, it is tempting to list the 7 experts in order of network size. For a bit of a different approach, here they are in first name alphabetical order.

The Positive Side of a Community

Social media legend and all-round nice guy Mark Schaefer posted a story on his blog about a kid who wished only a door for Christmas.

Now, I could make this post about how to write a good post, with a catchy title and a clear call to action.., but that wasn’t the goal of Mark’s story and it is not the point of this post.
However, the title did intrigue me and I did read the whole post. At the end Mark states that he never asks his readers for anything, and he really doesn’t.

Except this time, except in this post.., this time he humbly asked for a donation for Amachi.

No Expectations

The beautiful part of the whole thing is that Mark never expected much, he thought to give it a whirl and see what would happen.
The community responded.., and gave.., and proved Mark wrong.

As a result he was able to hand over a fat check, helping out a young friend and a wonderful organization.

For me it was a chance to give something back to Mark. He does give so much of his time, knowledge and energy without asking anything in return.

It just goes to show that building a positive community can be a valuable thing. Karma does pay off.., sometimes in a big and emotional way.

Cheers Mark, here’s to you…

You can get involved with Amachi too.
You can find Mark on Twitter and on his company website (among other places of course).

How Important Is Pinterest Really?

is pinterest importantPretty important. For one thing, the hype created around it caused such a surge in use that it grew faster than any other independent site in history. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Of course, if it was just a hype then Pinterest would have crashed by now.., but it hasn’t and it probably won’t.

To answer a question like above you’d show a lot of statistics and just say “voilà, that is why Pinterest is important”.
